Time for IDs - how to increase your observations to 'research level'

Thanks everyone for your observations (683 over the 4 days)
We still have just over 240 observations (32%) requiring identification to species level in this project.
Top tip: to ensure the project has as many species as possible identified to research level, scroll down the page on each observation and see who is the top identifier for that family/genus/ species (bottom right).

You can then use the comment section (on the left) and ask for assistance or confirmation eg "@margo_s can you assist with this ID please"?
They may advise you need images from different angles to ensure the key features can be viewed for confirmation. It is all part of learning and building knowledge.
Don't forget to respond/ thank them if you receive feedback!

GSB 2021 is a wrap but there is still time to upload your observations

Some great observations locally from across our local government area.
Looking forward to seeing more uploaded and verified over the next few days so keep checking back in.
Hoping the experience has encouraged you all to be more curious when you are out and about and find out what a particular species is.

We are almost at the halfway point!

Great to see everyone's observations starting to come in.
I am concentrating on heading out to visit a bunch of different ecosystems then will come the upload sessions. I'm aiming to minimise doubling up on species I've already recorded during the timeframe - simply a personal goal.
Hope you are all enjoying the challenge and thanks again for participating- keep up the great work!

GSB 2021 commences in 4 days

It runs from 22-25 October - 4 days (and nights)
Any image recorded in the Lake Macquarie LGA during the GSB time frame will be automatically linked into the project even if you are not following the project or a member.
Tip ✍️double check your location radius fits within our LGA

It's good practice to take a couple of images eg plants- different angle, leaf, flower, entire plant and upload as a single record.

Any LIVING THING (excluding domestic animals or garden plantings) recorded as located within Lake Macquarie LGA and in the GSB time frame will automatically be added to 'our' Lake Mac City project https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/great-southern-bioblitz-2021-lake-mac-city

Hope you will join in @gina_mascord @sweetpea28 @archiebrennan @peterdavey @richardyank @kirra5 @nicobserver @gavman2508 @maree11 @ange20 @janetgrevillea @asho @angophora @glindasglider @lucylakemac @elisebud @gregwest @fabulouschickpea @cressgil @rockpooling @kieranodonoghue @mattdowse @stevo1 @oliviabernauer @callumpreston @judy_rob_peters @perecrine @lessharpe @fiftygrit @timjkeegan @caliologist @kylie10264 @kenz0_j @j3natur37 @tonydiver @madkeen55 @suzy182 @outram @charmainerose

Just over 30 days until 2021 Great Southern Bioblitz commences

Will you join in the Great Southern Bioblitz?
Your challenge is to head out into Lake Mac City's natural areas from 22-25 October to record different species. Don't forget to upload your records to ensure they are 'counted' for our area https://greatsouthernbiobl.wixsite.com/website/how-to-participate

100 days until 2021 Great Southern Bioblitz

Great Southern Bioblitz (GSB) returns in 2021 and we are encouraging new and current iNaturalist members across Lake Mac City to participate this year.
We are fortunate to have great flora and fauna diversity across the City so we know it is possible to improve on GSB 2020-Lake Mac City results: 600 observations and 326 species recorded over the four days.
