HKISCNC - The next steps!

Dear All,

Firstly, WOW!!!!!

I can see that you have all worked incredibly hard over the past 4 days.
We are truly amazed and thankful for all the hard work that you've put in.
It has been a fantastic effort. We are speechless!
........but it's not over yet!!!!

The next steps.... Identification and Deleting

This is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT!!!

I am extending the deadline for pulling the results by an extra day. It will now be 6pm, Tuesday 13th November. You have 5 days in which to add an identification to your observations and to 'tidy up' your projects then I will do the final Observations, Species and Observers count.

On iNaturalist, this can be done on the computer and the app. You could even set this for homework!!! :D

As previously mentioned, it would help the iNaturalist community if your students added some sort of ID to their pictures, especially to those that have no ID yet. ID's like 'Insect', 'Bird' 'Beetle' in the 'What did you see?' section will help a lot to give your students more engagement with other users on iNaturalist.

In the spirit of the competition, please ask your participants to delete the following:
1) Domestic Animals e.g. Dogs, Cats,
2) Selfies
3) Indoor potted plants (including greenhouse plants).
4) Small outdoor potted plants

For plants, a good rule would be to look at the observation and ask 'Is this part of the urban habitat?' 'Does this plant interact with other organisms?'. If the answer is No, then it must be deleted. We, and other iNaturalist users, can not delete these pictures, only the Observer can. PLEASE encourage your participants to do so.

iNaturalist is a fantastic database of global biodiversity and we all have a responsibility to make sure that this database remains valid and relevant, otherwise the database will be diluted. I am sure you will agree that this is VERY IMPORTANT.

Your students can do this on the computer by logging on and clicking 'Observations'.
Click on an observation and click 'Edit'. Then hit 'delete'.
On the phone, it will be similar.

Good Luck!!!
