South/Aldercroft side - 4/15/2020

Coverage: Aldercroft Heights Road intersection to stop sign.
3:48pm - 5:20pm

Dead newts: 7, almost all on the side of the road away from the reservoir again
Other critters: 2 dead butterflies (that looked like they were mating at the time!), 1 dead garter snake, 2 dead fence lizards, 1 dead grasshopper (I think that's what it was)

Vehicles: 41
Bikes: 11
Pedestrians: 3

Weather: Warm and clear, in the 80s, hasn't rained in a while
Rainfall: MTD 2.35in, YTD 20.42in (per http://www.weathercat.net/wxraindetail.php?year=2020)

I removed from the road all of the dead reptiles I found.

More flowers blooming along the road. No ticks on me this time.

@merav, @truthseqr, @sea-kangaroo Hey y'all, I won't be able to patrol the south half the next few weeks. It seems to be nearing the end of the newt season (moving into dead lizard and snake season, sigh...), so perhaps it's an ok time to just stop collecting data down there. But if anyone wants to continue, please do.

I'm happy to do any housekeeping that's still useful for this season's data, and also open to working on a guidance document for new participants next year, assuming that the project continues.

Oh, and once quarantine is over, would anyone be up for meeting in person? Or am I the only one who hasn't met everyone? We could walk somewhere together that doesn't involve speeding cars and roadkill :-)

It does seem like the end of newt season. That's great! I will try to continue surveying the north side - I would like to keep track of the reptiles and arthropods, at least for a few weeks, if not the whole season.
I'm happy to meet on the other side of this, but it seems like that might take a while...

I'm happy to meet when we're able.
