TTF Photo Contest 2023

TTF Watershed Partnership: 2023 Photo Contest
Details & Rules
TTF and the Olney Culture Lab are happy to announce our third biannual photo contest, made possible by the Philadelphia Water Department, Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, The Circuit Trails, and the William Penn Foundation. For the second time, we’ve expanded the eligible coverage area to the whole TTF Watershed.

We welcome your creativity and point of view on our watershed!

Five photo entries are allowed per person; however, any individual is eligible for only one winning entry.

Who Can Enter:
Professional and enthusiast photographers of all ages are encouraged to participate! Current and former TTF staff are ineligible to win, as well as all previous photo contest winners.

There are three photo contest categories: adult, youth (13 to 18 years old), and children (12 years old and under). Each category will feature a first-place and second-place winner.

Prizes:
Adult 1st place: $250
Adult 2nd place: $125

Youth 1st place: $100
Youth 2nd place: $50

Children 1st place: $50
Children 2nd place: $25

Winning photos will be displayed at TTF’s Tacony Creek Park Music & Arts Fall Festival on Saturday, October 7, and in an online photo album.

Timeline: June 13 (Launching at Tacony Creek Park Block Parties) – July 31, 2023
Photo Requirements:
All photos must have been taken within the TTF watershed and submitted by July 31, 2023.

Photos can have been taken in the past or recently.

Photo subjects should include:

Nature and wildlife: animals, birds, plants, and trees
People enjoying the watershed (photographer must get permission from individuals in a photo if it is entered in the competition)
Human-made features of the park, especially those with historic significance
Seasonal scenes
We accept images taken by digital, phone, or film cameras, as long as they follow these requirements:

Full color
JPEG file format
300 Dots per inch (DPI)
Submit up to five photos to: ttfphotocontest@gmail.com

Include the following details:

Subject line of email: “TTF Watershed Photo Contest 2023”
Your full name, email, phone number, and address
Indicate if you are submitting as an Adult (over 18), as a Youth (13 – 18 years old), or as a Child (12 years old and younger)
Title each photo file. Name them “Untitled #1”, “Untitled #2” etc., if you do not have titles.
Under each title, please share a short description of when and where you took the photo. TTF Watershed exists across two counties and in several Philadelphia neighborhoods, so tell us what neighborhood/section of the watershed/park you were in. For instance, “Juniata Park section” or “Olney section” etc.

Photo taken Spring 2018 in Olney section of Tacony Creek Park near Adams Ave.

Contest judges will include staff and invited guests. Photos will be judged anonymously, and judgments will be subjective and based on the tastes and views of the judges.

Photo Use:
By submitting images to this contest, you are consenting to TTF and Olney Culture Lab use of these photographs, including usage in any future publications, on social media, and in current and future promotions of the Photo Contest. The photographer will retain copyright to the photographs submitted to this contest. TTF and Olney Culture Lab will not sell your photo entries. By submitting images to this contest, you will also be added to TTF’s email list, which you can unsubscribe from at any time.

Looking to do good in our Philadelphia watershed community? Inspire and educate young naturalists? We're seeking a leader for a BioBlitz activity with a school group of 5th to 8th graders on Friday, April 21 from 12:30pm to 2:30pm in Tacony Creek Park. Interested? Great Backyard Bird Count

Coming up from February 12th- 15th is the Great Backyard Bird Count, this event takes place everywhere. Participate for as little as 15 minutes and report what birds you saw on ebird. Fall Bioblitz

This fall we will be participating in a city-wide bio blitz being organized by the Philadelphia City of Nature Challenge folks. This will be running from September 25th- September 28th.
