Desert Botanical Garden is hosting the second annual urban Saguaro Census during the month of May to document more saguaros throughout the Phoenix metro area, as well as monitor the ones that were observed last year.
This year, we especially want to focus on areas that currently have an undercount, including the West Valley, South Phoenix and downtown areas. We are also interested in saguaros that look unhealthy, stressed, or dead. The information is critical in helping Garden scientists understand the health and demographics of urban saguaros.
We also have exciting prizes for the volunteers with the most observations, and a scavenger hunt for saguaros in public spaces. Stay tuned!

An in-person training will be held at Desert Botanical Garden with New World Succulents and Cactus scientist Dr. Tania Hernandez and Metro Phoenix EcoFlora Coordinator Jeny Davis. You will need a smartphone or tablet for this training.

Where to Meet: Webster Auditorium at Desert Botanical Garden (1201 N. Galvin Parkway, Phoenix, AZ 85008)
What to Bring: Smartphone, appropriate clothing and footwear (hats, closed-toed shoes, etc.). Sunscreen recommended and don't forget plenty of water! If you can, download the iNaturalist app to your phone ahead of time and create an account.
