Descripción

This perennial bunch grass can be seen growing in the San Rafael Valley in the US/Mexico borderlands between the states of Arizona and Sonora. The populations I observed were done flowering, but still had some fruits and a little bit of green at their bases as they are going dormant for the winter. The narrow singular raceme inflorescences have densely appressed spikelets with 1 (or maybe 2?) florets each. The glumes are densely pubescent, while the culm and narrow leaves are glabrous except for the hirsute ligules and some pubescence along the margins of the leaves and at the throat of the sheath as well as at the joints of the culm.
