From our Flickr page at the time:

On March 22, 2009 around 1:00pm, we were walking north on east main trail in Fakahatchee Preserve State Park in southwest Florida. We had just stepped out of a slough back onto the main trail when Chris noticed something on the trail. Chris wispered to Misti, "panther"!

We both were in shock, we have been lucky enough to see 4 and 5 panthers each over the last few years. We furiously pulled our little fuji point and shoot out of Misti's pocket and snapped a few pictures.

After a few pictures I whipped my bag off and got my dslr out, switched lenses and literally went running after the panther. I follwed the panther for about a quarter mile down the trail. Eventually it got annoyed at me following it and bounded off into the preserved.

WOW!

Normally there is a pool liner over the sand but it was removed in 3/27/21 on 3/28/21 I came out to do some work and found the tracks. There have been known to be minks in this area, we also have chickens and frogs around. The tracks don’t quite look like raccoon tracks (also known to be in the area) as they look more like paw prints rather than hand prints. The second image is from a foot or two away from the other tracks their was a third set that I had stepped on so did not take an image of. The dirt around the second print wasn’t as soft and was four or less feet away from the forest.

feeding on live oak and coffeeberry tree bark. managed herd being moved around the northern end of Fort Ord right now, probably fuel reduction and native plant habitat enhancement.

They're doing a really good job of clearing out the tall thatch and invasives, sometimes (as seen here), they do too good of a job and start stripping tree bark when they run out of plants to eat.

Noticed these gnaw marks mainly on oak and coffeeberry, also noticed they don't bother Ribes speciosum (probably due to spines?).

Noticed suncups (Taraxia ovatum) were unbothered by goats (or at least able to regrow and bloom quickly following grazing)

Seem also to really like manzanita foliage, stripped down as much leaves as they could when penned.

Shared what may his story on the observation of three weeks earlier, posted recently too.

It's a very, very tough life for a cub of the year on it's own.

Saw this cub of the year desperately foraging on his/her own and was able to see this youngster couple more times before the snow arrived for the year. Why this little one was on it's own, will never know... did he/she have brothers and sisters, was it's mother killed on the often frantically driven state highway several miles below, or was she killed in the year's bow-hunting season... other possibilities too.

Do know this little one was in a starving situation as the winter season approached. Will post one of the other encounters made about three weeks later. This guy, would follow me around as I tracked other bears in the area, remaining about 25 to 50 meters away on several occasions.

The closest I have ever been to this specie ever in my life while I was leading a nature tour in Corcovado,San Pedrillo Station.it was sitting next to trail about 3 ft away off the trail inside sense vegetation near water, that day very particularly was extremely hot so the preocupar fact in this encounter is that just before I spotted the animal for my group there was people comming exactly from the point where the Friné was resting ,about 50 people walked next to the animal before we saw it unaware of the animal watching them walk by one by one without been detected.
What a day, this is a digiscoping of my IPhone 5s camera with an 85mm spotting scope.
