Several crabs found within pieces of wood in the Oratia stream.

This fine specimen was found floating in the stream at the back of our section. It may have come to grief through stormwater input. A species ID would be appreciated.

At least 8 feeding on a washed up Mako

Numerous adults flying in open beech forest with an understorey dominated by cutty grasses. All the adults looked at least slightly tattered and faded.

Reef heron fishing at the edge of the Mangahume Stream feeding on whitebait. Must have caught at least 30 fish over the duration I was taking photographs.

Abandoned egg roughly chicken-egg size. Burrow first identified in Nov. This is next to a very popular spot with people and dogs, outside of the seasonal dog-on-a-leash zone.

I didn't expect this when I flipped the piece of wood. Carefully placed back after getting images.

Blue Hochstetter Frog found in an old gold mine tunnel

Two or three around here, and a number of others around the walk today. More inquisitive than normal - young one here I think.

Plenty of fish jumping on a turning tide off Titirangi Beach. I’m not up on my fish species, so please have a crack at the ID(s) if you are!

Dining on a mid-sized Emperor Gum Moth caterpillar

Saw this ruru as it flew a short distance down the track; I found it settled roughly 10m from the track. It seemed distinctly interested in me and at one stage flew a little closer.

A lot going on! P. phalangiodes predated by Lampona murina, which then was predated by a larger P. phalangiodes.

Seen during a trip a decent few years ago up to the Auckland area.
The most tame and photogenic Grey Warbler I have ever encountered!
