Light pole near west side of Porter County Regional Airport.
Southwest form (Fuertes race) Red-tailed Hawk; the common form in this part of Texas. Note the lack of a distinct belly band.
My brother took this image with a cell phone at a winery near Wilcox, Arizona. He and his wife stopped there for a visit while they were passing through the area and this Gray Fox was asleep on the sun-warmed roof tiles of the winery. He said there was a slanted column that the fox apparently uses to get on and off the roof. This fox has obviously found a nice place to warm up in the sun!

--neck behaved like a turtle while head appeared to go completely flat like a cobra.
--antennas pointed out directly in front of bigger eyes
-she grabbed the grasshopper so quickly (see photo 4)
-- First, antennas ate. Then, bit into the skull (photo 6 & 7)
Spreading out it's wings to face the sun, on a fine but cool winter's day.
When I was a child, a few decades ago, the tiny bog turtle was everywhere here. Haven't seen one, however, in the 3 years (2009-2011) that I spent here after being away.*:-(
