Found this snake in the pool. 1:36 PM
At first it was at the edge of the pool, and when my mom and I walked to the backyard, we saw the snake slither into the pool and get onto the chlorine cap. When the cap neared the edge, the snake slithered away.
Strange to have a neo this time of year.
This snake was in high grasses near a wood log, it was already cooled up by the time I saw it and this was the only quality picture I was able to get. I wasn’t able to see if there was a rattle or not.
This tiny juvenile with a very attractive light color was sound asleep on a fallen log alongside a small uphill trail. Its head would have fit completely on a penny.
Young southern pacific rattlesnake from Santa Barbara County, California. Never too cold for snakes here ;o)
Young of the year (2018) animal in classic ambush posture approximately 3 feet off the ground in an oak. There were numerous spiny lizards (Sceloporus) around which I'm assuming is a major component of the diet of young C. helleri. I have yet to encounter this species in a tree before. I'm wondering if it's worth writing up for herp review or other natural history publication.
Another neonate. Hiding in brick wall
Juvenile.
