This is the last time I saw a Sunflower Sea Star and the only time I saw its track. It was heading back to the ocean.
Extra leg growing
Seemingly eating the limb ofPisaster ochraeus
Mid molt
Over the weekend a friend and I made it to the Katchamak Bay Shorebird Festival. One of my favorite events is the field trip called "Critters of the Boat Harbor. It is amazing the variety of life a boat harbor can maintain even though they probably are not the most pristine of places. This sea star was a great start. After there recent decline thanks to a virus, I was happy to be a part of seeing this healthy individual.
Spawning ochre star!
