Stuck between a member of the Peromyscus and the Onychomys genus, but can't quite get it down to species.

Desert Cottontail (Sylvilagus audubonii), Ward County, Texas
we saw 2 rodents - i thought i got the smaller version the night before - i'm thinking i got this "larger" one twice. maybe the smaller one was just a smaller version, always hate leaving a species photo on the table.
they were funny - they'd come out while cooking, but never be seen otherwise.
