Caught while netting for Rudd.
No Rudd ... yay
But this 159 mm Giant Bully was a nice bonus.
Not shown in pic but 6 spines on the dorsal fin.
I think this is a common bully but I will let the community decide - I'm no expert.
2 elver eels wriggling in shells near a freshwater spring outflow. The channel to the sea had almost dried up. Returned the eels to water.
A larger short-finned eel was seen in the same location November 2015.

Sneaking up a stream
This little goby was found dead on the bottom of the river.
A few days later we found a dead longfin eel at the bottom of the river nearby (http://naturewatch.org.nz/observations/2719543)- coincidence or is it common to find dead fish it late summer when the river temperatures are up?
Several large and small fish in the freshwater stream near the Manukau Harbour.

Under birch trees
In the shallow end of the Karekare waterfall pool. Fish were being chased by a Little shag.
Honeybee on a bird of paradise
A large dolomedes spider I found under a tray of plants in my nursary. I would love to know if it is D. minor or D. aquaticus.
Wanting to confirm bee not look-alike fly.
Some of these caught in a highly modified stream (little more than a farm drain) and relocated to the nearby Komakorau Stream by Waikato Regional Council staff during drain clearance operations. My brother took the photo.
