I believe these are feral/dumped pets in a koi pond at UCSB as opposed to captive animals that are “supposed” to be there (I’m judging that based on the fact there are far more than there used to be when I was a student back in the day, and the fact one had shell deformities consistent with poor husbandry during growth that wouldn’t be likely to occur in an outdoor pond).

From a while ago, not recent. Location not exact, but general area is correct.
Ran into this large fella on a walk. Sorry to have interrupted its cozy digging session, but it didn’t seem too bothered.
