Walking on a trail near Horn Lake the snake was on the path and did not want to move far from it. We could not see the tail, but could hear it rattle. While this is not the known area for the Massassauga, it is also not the defined area for the mimic that looks close to the snake we saw (Eastern Foxsnake).

tadpoles, mostly still alive, in rapidly disappearing wetland. I collected as many as I could into a plastic bag and transported them to a still-wet trench of this wetland. Rains returned within a couple of days and the wetland partially filled up again so hopefully most of these tadpoles were able to survivie.
