I observed this plant on March 6 at 9:53am. The weather was in the low 50s and the soil was slightly saturated. The red maple is named for its red features during the autumn months. These trees can reach about 60-90 feet in height. This plant is a wetland species but can tolerate a wide range of environments.
Gray squirrel found in a tree at Lettuce Lake Park. Running, climbing, and nibbling on something it found. Small, gray, and furry with a long fuzzy tail. Eastern gray squirrels prefer wooded or suburban areas according to nsis.org. They have a larger range in the eastern US but can be found as west as Texas.
Found this off the side of a gravel trail leading to the manatee viewing center at the Teco Big Bend Station. It was overcast and about 20 degrees C. The cucumber appeared to be growing on some other scrub. The flowers on the vine lead me to ID this as a creeping cucumber and not a bitter melon (which I thought it could have been at first - plants are not my forte).
This anole here was sunning himself in the early morning. Looks to be about 6 inches in length with a pointed head. the color appears to be bright green with patches of yellow on the legs. Also has a white under belly that runs the entire length of the body. I was trying to get one of the dewlap but he didn't want to show it. Shown as well is the elevated ridge on the back of the head prominent in anoles.
