Pitfall trap installed 24th April and removed 1st May
Pitfall trap with metal tent was set up in quite hard, dry soil beneath a Fatsia japonica, camellia and another unknown plant awaiting ID. There was a lot of leaf litter, some of which fell in the trap. The final evening before collection there was some rain, but otherwise the weather was clear. Temperatures ranged from
16°-24° (high) and -3°-4° (low).
i have no idea what these guys are but they are everywhere on the rocky beach. they were mostly under rocks in the intertidal zone, but not in the water. they jump so high and really prepare themselves for the launch by tucking their tails in and then catapulting!
