Several on cauliflower plant. Approximate 1.5-2” length
This plant was in an area of mahogany, juniper and a short pine tree. It was on a mound possibly at the base of one of those trees, and appeared to be at ground level like a matting plant. My impression was that it was not common in the area.

Not cactaceae, had woody stems.
Unsure of what species this is. Was growing along the lakeside in an open area that has relatively sandy soil.
