Water Moccasin Rolling

On more than one occasion I have come across water moccasins in small puddles of water two to six feet long that were were rolling around and twisting in the puddle in semi balled up fashion. Best I could tell they are doing this to muddy up the water and confuse the minnows trapped in these puddles. Saw this behavior during dry times that created the puddles. There was only one snake so mating was not the issue.
Never saw a snake actually eat the minnows but that's all I can think they were trying to do.
