After 40 odd years as a chartered engineer, I finally have time to become involved in nature, something I've loved since childhood.
I am very fortunate to look out onto Ochre Dyke Field which is part of Waterthorpe Park on the south east outskirts of Sheffield. A few residents like me were becoming concerned that the park was in. To cut a long story short we set up Friends of Waterthorpe Park www.friendsofwp.wixsite.com/website We now have 80 members on Facebook and 90 on Twitter
When we started I had very little ecological knowledge. By talking to people like Prof Ian Rotherham, Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust and Ecologists at Sheffield City Council, I still have a lot to learn but they have shown me the importance of documenting sightings. So that's my mission for 2020 and where I'm hoping the iNaturalist community can help
