Preparing for the Project

Welcome to our Spring 2019 Group Project! The Project is set to start on April 19 2019. Before that date I encourage you to get familiar with iNaturalist by making your own observations, and waiting for feedback from the iNaturalist community. Once you post an observation other iNaturalist users can view your posts and offer suggestions as to the identity. You may also receive comments, which might help you make better observations in the future. You can also edit your posts by adding or removing pictures, by adding details, for example if your photo contains more than one species, a bee on a flower, clarify that it is the bee you are posting, and if there is nothing to provide scale in your photo, describe how large the organisms was.

Now that we are in spring any observations that you make will help to document the biodiversity of the Bay Area. A number of organisms will just be beginning their activity for the year, new leaves emerging, the first flowers opening, birds returning from their winter ranges in Central America. The date of this activity is a useful marker to compare to previous years, and as the location is recorded it adds to our understanding of where organisms occur.

Have fun
