Almost at 10,000! / Prize reveal / Stretch goal

Congratulations everyone, we’ve cleared almost 10,000 unknowns*! (991 remaining)

At 10k you’ll earn your first prize - an exclusive photoshoot of Blue's cat, Baklava! Each stretch goal will add cool extras such as costumes. The final pictures will be shared the week after the ID-a-thon.

The first stretch goal is 12,000 unknowns, and we are adding Belgium to the target countries so that there will be enough observations to get there (991+2354 from Belgium). Keep going and clear those Unknowns!
Here's a little teaser:

*yes, new ones are added daily, but not as many as you would think -- countries with fewer iNatters don't have that many pages of new observations a day.
Also, we're giving you the Life observations which were included in the initial URL for free -- here on out, we are only counting IDs made on totally ID-less observations.

I am sorry if I should know this. Does the fact that only ID-less observations are counted mean that if there is some ID already (i.e. at the family level), and we improve it, it doesn't count towards our total for this project? Or does it count only in the "improvement" category? Thanks for clearing that up.

These stats are just for the Unknown category, improving from a family identification will count for improvement category, but only improving from an unknown status will count for this category.

Zachary is correct. The unknowns challenge is for observations without any kind of ID, observed in the specified countries. Several of the other event categories (beginner's challenge, constancy, and improvement) have no restrictions on them whatsoever--you can add any ID to any observation. For the old observations category, there's a restriction on the age of the observation (uploaded 5+ years ago). For the mystery categories, there are restrictions, but we don't tell you what they are; you either have to guess, or just do what ever you were doing and hope you get lucky.
