Obscured Data

An important reminder ahead of next years City Nature Challenge!

We are currently updating our local copy of data which is used to inform conservation and biodiversity strategy in the local area and have had to delete around 500 records of locally significant protected species such as Badger, Bats and Eel because they have been obscured from us.

Records are obscured either by you or automatically by iNaturalist where the species is a conservation priority. This includes many wetland birds, marine species and plants.

Through us you can directly shape local decision taking, influence conservation, and direct planning for biodiversity in the face of a wide range of current and future challenges but to do this we need access to your information. Please consider allowing us access to your obscured data by permitting the BioBank Project. This means that we can download hidden data but your information will not be available to the general public at the same level. So you can be confident your species location remains protected but also used to aid conservation locally.

You can check or change your settings by going to our project: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/merseyside-biobank then, if you are not a member, click on join at which point you will be prompted to share your hidden data.

If you are already a member then click on "Your Membership" where you can view your current settings and change them if necessary.
