Natrix natrix (sensu lato) has been split twice. First Pokrant et al., 2016 split off Natrix natrix ssp. astreptophora (snakes west of the Pyrenees) as Natrix astreptophora
Then Kindler et al., 2017 split off snakes west of the Rhine as Natrix helvetica, specitically:
Natrix natrix ssp. helvetica
Natrix natrix ssp. cetti
Natrix natrix ssp. lanzai
Natrix natrix ssp. sicula
Natrix natrix ssp. corsa
leaving Natrix natrix sensu stricto (east of the Rhine) as:
Natrix natrix ssp. calabra
Natrix natrix ssp. cypriaca
Natrix natrix ssp. fusca
Natrix natrix ssp. gotlandica
Natrix natrix ssp. natrix
Natrix natrix ssp. persa
Natrix natrix ssp. schweizeri
Natrix natrix ssp. scutata
Natrix natrix ssp. syriaca

I'll try to fix this - Are Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia snakes Natrix natrix or a mix of Natrix natrix and Natrix helvetica?

Veneto & Friuli-Venezia Giulia -> genus Natrix (mixed N. helvetica - N. Natrix, lack of genetic data)
All the rest of Italy -> N. helvetica

Hi @loarie , as in these flags ( https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/851211-Natrix-helvetica/flags & https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/966787-Natrix-natrix/flags ) all Italian Natrix natrix obs (except Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, NE Italy) should have been assigned to the taxon Natrix helvetica.

Now, probably due to an error in the atlas, most of them were assigned to Natrix natrix (e.g., https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/6054057 )
while those of western Italy have been assigned to the genus Natrix ( https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/27680553 )
It is possible to fix or t is necessary to identify again all the observations?
