Week 3 Plans

Tomorrow, I'll be visiting Kerman, CA and check out that part of San Joaquin River there. I saw on the map it's temporarily closed but if there's access somewhere else, I could check it out. If there's none, I'm planning to go to Sycamore Island, Ave 7 1/2, Madera, CA with nature trails for walking, biking, nature observations, huge Sycamore and Oak trees. There's Sycamore Island Trout Pond that stocks Hatchery trouts during hot summer months. It should be fun to visit. I wasn't able to take good pictures of fishes in the river last week, only very small fishes which is difficult to see in pictures. I hope to get pictures of squirrels that I missed last week. They moved too fast, same as the birds and insects that I wasn't able to capture on camera.

October 3, 2021

Skaggs Bridge Park information online says Closed Oct.1 to the day before Easter so we drove to Ave 7 1/2, Madera County near Sycamore Island not so far from San Joaquin River and there are a lot of interesting trees. I'm not sure what this tree is and what it's infested with, maybe termite, but I thin termite eggs are light in color. The other tree looks like it's growing out a bundle of stems and leaves rolled into a ball or looks like symbiosis with another plant, but I'm not sure at this point.

Next week, I'll come earlier so I could spend more time and look around more. I'll try San Joaquin River Conservancy Spano Ranch next week if it's open because it must be good , close to Willow Unit of California Fish and Wildlife’s San Joaquin River Ecological Reserve or if I have time, I would like to visit Los Banos Waterfowl Management Area or Volta State Wildlife Area in Volta near Los Banos.

Journal Week 5 October 7, 2021

I wasn't able to go to Los Banos but I planned on going to Oso de Oro park anyway which is much closer.

Here are pictures of squirrels , flowers and the lake. It's a flood control district so they have a lake and tall trees all over to reduce flooding. There are bees on the flowers, big spiders, lots of webs and big ants on the bushes but my phone camera couldn't take good pictures.

I'll try to go to Los Banos next week because there are a lot of wildlife preservation areas there, but it's quite far.

Week 6

October 16, 2021
I end up going to Riverbottom Park instead because I'm on my way to Madera and the river with a few birds flying around is tempting to observe. There are small fishes, I think hornworts, dragonflies, bees, grasshoppers, and they're all very fast and I'm hoping to catch them.

I was able to take pictures of dragonfly, fishes, trees, waterplants, butterfly. I can't wait til they get some identification.
Next time, I plan to go just somewhere close because school schedule is tight. I plan to go to Kerman next, the other side of town, Hopefully there's access there like the Riverbottom Park.

Week 7

I'm finally able to go to Los Banos Widell/Ramacciotti Wetland Restoration, a restored property that provides waterfowl and wildlife habitat. It has varieties of birds flying around, bees, moths, water lilies, small fishes.

I took pictures but a lot some of them didn't come out well specially the birds and fishes. Water lilies pictures came out good.

Next week I'm heading to Kerman, hopefully it's open this time. The river area there seems more accessible and wider. I'm hoping to take better pictures for idetification.
